Natural Church Development at Clear Lake

You may have heard of a survey. You may have been invited by Pastor Diana at worship to come to a Natural Church Development focus group or the Planning Workshop on April 27. You may have wondered what it is about and what happened as a result.

What is Natural Church Development? NCD is not a program but an on-going process of evaluation, improvement and further evaluation. The goal is a stronger, healthier church. The results are yet to be seen.

There are eight quality characteristics of growing, healthy churches:
     • Empowering Leadership,
     • Gift-oriented Ministry,
     • Passionate Spirituality,
     • Effective Structures,
     • Inspiring Worship Service,
     • Holistic Small Groups,
     • Need- Oriented Evangelism, and
     • Loving Relationships.

These characteristics are universal principles that have been used by God to build his church--proven by a study of at least 1000 different churches on all five continents. Research indicated that no church that wants to grow can neglect even a single one of these quality characteristics. Survey results indicate the characteristic we most need to focus on for strengthening is "Passionate Spirituality."

Pastor Diana included a discussion of what Passionate Spirituality is in her sermon on May 11. On Sunday, May 18 and again on May 25 we will be asking you to complete a short questionnaire/survey asking for your input regarding this characteristic of growing churches. We hope you will participate, even though you may not have heard the message.
